A haunting love letter to Welsh folklore recognised on the national stage

We’re absolutely thrilled to share that Maid of Sker has won the Heritage in Games award at this year’s TIGA Awards.
This one means a lot to us. Maid of Sker was created as a love letter to Welsh folklore and the haunting legends that inspired us. What started as a small idea born out of our love for Welsh storytelling has grown into a game that’s reached over 8 million players around the world. Seeing it recognised for its cultural roots feels like everything’s come full circle.
Our Co-Founder Dai Banner summed it up perfectly:
“That game was a real labour of love for me, Richard Pring and the Wales Interactive team. It’s great recognition for a title that’s achieved 8 million downloads globally. I was especially proud to hear the Welsh language soundtrack blasting through the speakers as Mark Hindmarsh and I accepted the award.”
It was a brilliant night all round for the Welsh games scene. Huge shoutout to Ant Workshop for their multiple nominations with Into the Restless Ruins, and to Rocket Science Group for taking home their own TIGA Award. It’s inspiring to see Welsh studios standing shoulder to shoulder on a national stage.
A massive diolch to TIGA for the honour, and to Creative Wales / Cymru Greadigol for their ongoing support. The team there has done incredible work championing Welsh creativity and helping studios like ours tell stories that matter.
Maid of Sker will always be a special project for us. It’s not just a horror game; it’s a piece of our heritage wrapped in eerie music, folklore, and fear.
If you’ve not played it yet, Maid of Sker is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android with a VR version coming very soon.
