"Air làr san toll-dubh, cha bhi grian."
We’re proud to announce that Into the Restless Ruins, the dungeon-building roguelike-deckbuilder steeped in Celtic folklore, is fully playable in Scottish Gaelic!
Following the launch on 15th May, we’re taking a moment to explore why we chose to support one of Scotland’s endangered languages, and share thoughts from the game’s developer, Ant Workshop, on what it means to bring Gaelic into the Ruins.

Plus, read the interview with BBC Alba in Gaelic "Geamaichean coimpiutair sa Ghàidhlig gus fàs nas pailte?" or English "Gaelic computer games to become more popular?"
Earn the Title: Master of Tongues And if you're bold enough to play the whole game in Gaelic, there's a tricksy little prize waiting for you: the Master of Tongues achievement. To earn it, you’ll need to complete a full run without switching away from Gaelic. It’s a challenge that’s part language pride, part mischief, and entirely on theme.
“We wanted to make something that felt genuinely Scottish, and offering the game in Scottish Gaelic felt like a natural part of that. It’s a nod to the stories that inspired the world, and a chance to hear ghosts, witches, and werewolves muttering in a language older than the ruins themselves. If you’re a Gaelic speaker, or fancy learning a bit by battling through a dungeon, this might be the weirdest immersion course out there. And if you're a Gaelic creator or streamer, we'd love to see what you make of it.”
Tony Gowland, Developer & MD at Ant Workshop
A Growing Movement
We’re not the first to support Scottish Gaelic in a game (we took inspiration from the fantastic work on Still Wakes the Deep and others), but we’re proud to add our voice to what we hope is a growing movement. Whether it’s Gaelic, Welsh (also supported in the game and counted towards the achievement), or any language with cultural weight behind it, there’s real value in seeing games reflect the communities and histories that shape them.

Why We Backed Gaelic and Welsh
As an indie publisher, we understand that not every studio can prioritise this approach to localisation. Every language takes time, care, and budget—and Gaelic or Welsh rarely top the list when it comes to commercial returns. But sometimes the decision isn’t about scale. It’s about culture, visibility, and about backing developers like Ant Workshop who care deeply about the worlds they’re creating and the communities they reflect.
Your Language Belongs Here
We hope more studios and publishers will feel encouraged to include underrepresented languages where they can. Even a single additional option can carry weight. It tells players that their language, their stories, and their voice have a place in games.
