Our Co-Founder & MD was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Technology today at De Montfort University in Leicester. This recognition was for his achievements over his 25 year video games industry career. It was particularly special and humbling moment for him as this was the University where he studied and graduated from way back in 1995! We doff our hat to you Dr David Banner MBE.
We had an amazing 2019 at Wales Interactive with our studio continuing to go from strength to strength. We received our 100th award nomination this year winning our third BAFTA Cymru Award as well as two Great British Entrepreneur Awards. We were also recognised in the Wales Fast Growth 50 as one of the top 5 fastest growing companies in Wales. As normal, we visited a number of shows throughout the year. A couple of the stand out trips include Los Angeles for E3 where had some great meetings for our future projects including a very memorable one at Netflix headquarters. We also had an invite to South Korea to talk all about our interactive movies at the Busan Film Festival, which was a brilliant experience. Launch wise 2019 was busy again with us releasing a number of multi-platform titles including found phone horror game Simulacra, turn-based combat Attack of the Earthlings, FMV adventure hybrid Headspun and VR cinema versions of Late Shift and The Bunker. We also had two Limited Run...
Simulacra gets its worldwide launch today on to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. We are very pleased to collaborate with Malaysian game developer, Kaigan Games, to bring their brilliant found-phone FMV horror game SIMULACRA to console. SIMULACRA is the spiritual successor to the viral found-phone horror game Sara Is Missing. The follow-up title has since received a 96% overwhelmingly positive review status on Steam and has now received full controller support for console and touchscreen support for Nintendo Switch.
We're extremely proud to have won the BAFTA Cymru Award 2019 for Best Game at Sunday's glitzy ceremony in Cardiff. Our virtual reality title, Time Carnage VR, picked up the award on the night making it back to back wins following on from last year's success. This is another great achievement for the Wales Interactive team and we celebrated in style partying long into the night in the amazing official BAFTA Cymru after party. Also as an added surreal bonus we got to meet Doctor Who (Jodie Whittaker), Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) and C3PO (Anthony Daniels)! Thank you to all at BAFTA Cymru for the award and for putting on such a memorable event.
The Shapeshifting Detective is getting a boxed release on PS4, our second boxed release with Limited Run Games this year!! The supernatural-noir murder mystery FMV game developed by D'Avekki Studios and ourselves will be our 6th boxed product on PS4 and will be on sale this Friday, October 11th at 3pm and 11pm BST on https://limitedrungames.com.
We had an amazing trip last week to the Busan Film Festival 2019 in South Korea where we were invited as guest speakers and panelists to talk about our interactive movie titles. We showed exclusive footage of our latest interactive film, The Complex, which is nearing completion as well demoing the Wales Interactive Scripting Tool (WIST) used in its creation. It was a brilliant experience and very flattering for us to be involved. A big thanks for BARUNSON for inviting us and being great hosts. 감사합니다
Delighted to announce that our Founders and Directors, David Banner MBE and Richard Pring, have been crowned the 2019 @NatWestBusiness #GBEACardiff Great British Entrepreneurs of the Year! They also picked up the Creative Industry Entrepreneur Award and if that wasn't enough excitement for one night they got to meet Wynne Evans! Aka Mr Go Compare!! A big thanks to #GBEA for a brilliant night and this amazing recognition.
We've just had the brilliant news that Time Carnage VR has received a nomination in the BAFTA Cymru Awards 2019 for best game. This makes it the seventh year running that we've had a title nominated! Time to dust off our tuxedos....we're hitting the red carpet again! 🏆 A massive thank you to @BAFTACymru and a huge congratulations to all the other nominees. Looking forward to seeing you all at the ceremony next month and the Champagne Taittinger after party to properly celebrate this achievement! To see all the BAFTA Cymru Awards nominees, click here.
We exclusively reveal WIST (Wales Interactive Scripting Tool) in this month's Edge Magazine. Its our in-house tool we've been developing over the last year to help us create the interactive story games and films we've become known for publishing. WIST enables writers to easily create interactive story scripts that can be played in text form before we go into full production. The WIST file created also drives the development process from early concept through to production and even creating the multi platform versions. If you're interested in producing interactive, non-linear stories for games, films or any other media, you will definitely want to pick up issue E336, on sale now. A big thank you to Jen Simpkins who interviewed us at E3 for this outstanding 4-page feature 🙏
We just received good news that we are finalists' in the this years NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards. Our two founders Dai and Rich have been shortlisted for Creative Industries Entrepreneurs of the Year for the second year in a row! And if that wasn't enough in addition we've been nominated for the fifth year running in the Bridgend Business Forum Awards 2019 for the Creative Industries Award and Innovation Award. Its really flattering to receive this recognition in both these events, congratulations to all the other finalists and we're looking forward to attending both award nights
We had a great trip to Los Angeles last week for E3. We crammed a lot in and had some amazing meetings and interviews about our current and future games and interactive film titles. Also met up with some old game industry friends and made lots of new ones as well. We came away feeling very proud of being involved in such a prestigious event and overwhelmed to meet such a good bunch of people. We feel very fortunate to be part of the global games industry and still after all these years love making and selling the games! 😀
